NYKEA FOR CONGRESS
“OUR COMMUNITY IS HURTING, AND WE CAN’T FIX IT WITH THE SAME POLITICAL PROMISES. I HAVE SPENT MY LIFE LIVING, WORKING, AND SERVING THIS COMMUNITY, AND I WILL WORK WITH YOU TO BRING THE ENERGY AND NEW IDEAS THAT WE NEED.” – NYKEA PIPPION MCGRIFF
MEET NYKEA PIPPION MCGRIFF
Nykea was born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, where she also spent many years raising her late son Xavier as a single mother. As she worked to make ends meet, she learned just how hard it was to find adequate housing for her young family. She saw that struggle happen for far too many other families in our community, so she dedicated herself to advocating for affordable housing in the communities. Today, she’s become one of the most successful realtors in Chicago and throughout the state.
Her connection to the community runs deep in other ways too. Nykea’s youngest son, Artie, has autism. Throughout his life, Nykea has been an advocate for her son’s education when she realized that Artie wasn’t receiving adequate schooling to meet his needs. Nykea took action by advocating for basic educational needs, and earned the proper educational requirements that now allows Artie and other students like him to succeed in our communities.
Like too many other Southside families, Nykea unfortunately knows what it’s like to lose a loved one to senseless gun violence. In 2017, Nykea lost her eldest son, Xavier, to a random act of violence. His tragic death shook the community and became a catalyst to her journey to run for office. Nykea is fighting to keep up the fight that her son started – together, they will bring about real change to the 1st Congressional District.
Among her volunteer and leadership efforts, she has:
Become the first Black woman President of Chicago’s Association of Realtors
Served for 6-years as the federal political coordinator for Congressman Bobby Rush
Fought for the Mortgage Debt Relief Act
Been an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc
Served as a Board member of IDFPR, the real estate administrative and disciplinary board, which is the licensing body for all real estate licenses in Illinois
FIGHTING FOR WHAT MATTERS MOST
Nykea Pippion McGriff has dedicated herself to advocating for access to the American Dream - homeownership and housing affordability. She is ready to hit the ground running in Congress. She knows it’s time for someone who spends every day fighting in this community to take our voices to DC. With decades of community advocacy, Nykea is connected to the community in a way typical politicians are not. Her campaign is the beacon of hope and change voters in the 1st Congressional District need.
